Franklin County Technical School students recently competed with terrific success at the state SkillsUSA Competition in Marlboro, MA. Eleven Tech School students participated in this competition, six due to their success at the district level competition held this past winter. Hope Martin, a senior in Culinary Arts from Greenfield, captured the gold medal in Food and Beverage Service. Samantha Alger, a senior in Welding and Metal Fabrication from Northfield, won the silver medal in Welding. And Patrick Hanas, a senior in Culinary Arts from Conway, captured the gold in Action Skills. These medals signify that these students are the top high school performers in the state within their respective fields. Hope Martin and Patrick Hanas will next advance to the national SkillsUSA competition next month in Kansas City where they will compete with other gold medal winners from throughout the country. They are representative of the many students at the Franklin County Technical School dedicated to quality effort and performance in their trade areas. SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. More than 285,000 students and instructors join SkillsUSA annually, organized into more than 15,000 sections and 54 state and territorial associations.
