Pre-Employment Program (PEP)
$500 Check presented to Dakin Animal Shelter
STUDENTS TAKE A TOUR AND MEET THE CATS AND DOGS |
|
|
| Alicia Rhodes presents a $500 check
to Lori Swanson of the Dakin Animal Shelter. Lori is the Education and
Outreach Manager of the Dakin Animal Shelter. Lori guided the tour of the
shelter and answered the many questions students had about the shelter,
adoption and pet care.
| Lori Swanson presents the PEP
students a certificate of appreciation for their fundraising efforts.
|
|
|
| Kenny Kuklewicz displays the certificate
of appreciation.
| Anna Dingman and the other students
check out the cats as Lori Swanson explains how the shelter takes in animals
and prepares them for adoption to new homes.
|
|
|
| Staff of the PEP program also enjoyed
the tour. JoAnn Stafford makes friends with one of the cats in the cat
visiting room.
| Alicia Rhodes coaxes a cat from
its perch. It only took a couple of minutes for a friendship to develop.
|
|
|
| Melissa Coleman takes a turn holding
Layla. Layla's small size and easy going nature made her an instant favorite
with the students.
| Corey Therien holds Layla,
the smallest dog at the shelter. Layla is part Chihuahua and is mellow
and friendly.
|
|
|
| Layla is given a big hug from Nick
Pasiecnik.
| Instructor, Guy LaPollo made an
instant friend! Sweetie was a super people-friendly
dog and greeted everyone with enthusiasm.
|
|
|
| Students and staff meet with Cooter,
an easy going basset hound mix. Cooter's droopy expression said "take
me home!"
PEP staff member, Brittany Foisy and Kenny Kuklewicz share some time with Cooter
who enjoyed the attention.
| Besides meeting the dogs, students
also met the many cats at the shelter. Nick is pictured enjoying some
quiet time with the one of the cats.
|
|
|
| Corey plays with a cat who
is waiting for adoption.
| Scott and Kenny say good-bye to
Sweetie before ending their visit to the Dakin Animal Shelter. By all accounts
the visit was enlightening, interesting and fun.
|
| The PEP program
is a unique, tuition based program designed for students with cognitive
challenges. This small, but effective program works with students on many
educational and independent living skills. Academic skills such as reading,
math and critical thinking are practiced daily. Life skills such as cooking
and laundry, and shop trade skills such as auto detailing, recycling processing,
and office technology are some of the employment skills that offer our students
a better chance toward future independent living and job placement. For
information about this program, contact Leslie Brown at 413-863-9561, ext.
123.
