William
(Bill) Gallant is a 1981 graduate of Franklin County
Technical School. Bill was an electrical student
at FCTS and went on to a successful career as an
electrician. In 2000 Bill returned to FCTS to become
one of our electrical instructors. Bill is a dedicated
and hardworking teacher. He is heavily involved in
the introduction of photovoltaic technologies for
the electrical students along with the traditional
skills necessary for success in the electrical field. Students
get the benefits of a vocationally trained, experienced,
licensed electrician and licensed instructor with
a great deal of enthusiasm for his trade.
A couple of years ago,
Bill
took on the added responsibility as newly created
position of Alumni Coordinator. From
a vague concept in the beginning, Bill began
to accumulate a database of alumni data and was the central force in the
development of a well organized
and very successful
Alumni Gathering.
Bill, like many grads
from FCTS became a productive
member of the Franklin County area. FCTS is pleased
to have him as a member of our school community and as
the driving force of our emerging Alumni Association.

The
development of an Alumni Association was years in
the making. While class reunions take place at the
direction of class officers, FCTS, like many schools,
was interested in knowing
where our graduates were, what our graduates were doing,
and how FCTS benefited (or not) our student population.
Are our grads members of local communities? If so,
are
grads in the trades they studied at FCTS. Are our
grads active in their area communities? Town meetings?
Local politics? What about those who those have moved
to far away places around the country. Did FCTS help
your start those travels? Do you have fond memories?
Where better to discover the answers of these questions than from an association
of alumni - hence the conception of the Alumni Association!

No one knew how much interest would be generated by
holding an Alumni Gathering. Bill Gallant and others at FCTS began developing
the plans for the Alumni Gathering with great excitement but with little knowledge
of what to expect.
Advertising and mailings were done to get
the word out that alumni were invited to
the Greenfield Country Club in the Spring of 2009. Peter LaFrance even
did a radio ad to catch the ear of alumni living in the Franklin County
area. The advertizing blitz worked!
By the time the day
arrived, nearly 400 people had signed up for the event! FCTS almuni, from
local residents to those living across the country, came to the event.
The day of the Alumni Gathering could not have been more perfect. The Greenfield Country Club was inviting with
its comfortable decor inside and glorious surroundings outside. The weather was warm and sunny. There
was a spirit of excitement as long-lost friends met for the first time in many
years. Talk of family, adventures, life changes, careers and stories of FCTS school times could
be heard from groups of old friends gathered together. Long-time faculty came to the
event to see students from the past. Retired teachers and administration came and
enjoyed the company of those who were once young students and now adult members of
thriving communities across the country and here locally.
The event included a D. J., appetizers, yearbook
memories, a slide show and raffles. Tables were adorned with
beautiful flower arrangements created by Marie Superchi, staff member
and also a graduate of FCTS.
An enthusiastic group of grads
offered to become members of the
newly formed Alumni Association to develop future activities. Plans will be developed
for future events.
